 Convergence
and Mobility- State of Play
David Cannon, Senior Analyst, Telecommunications,
IDC Australia
The concept of mobility in the IT industry
is widely embraced, yet in an understated
manner. However, there is a general consensus
that decision-makers factor only the short-term
productivity benefits of enterprise mobility
without planning for a sustainable mobility
implementation. As cyclic business issues
return to the fore, savvy organizations
look towards embracing enterprise mobility
solutions to solve long-standing business
issues whilst adopting a mode of working
offering responsiveness and flexibility.
Mr Cannon will examine:
# The state of enterprise mobility in the
Australian market;
# The short-term drivers;
# The long-term roadmaps;
# The ongoing opportunities and challenges
of mobility solutions to organizations.

 Simplifying
Mobility within Converged Environments
Stephen
Dolan, Director Channels & Alliances,
Sybase
Over the past few years, we have seen a
rapid evolution in the adoption of mobile
and wireless technology in the enterprise.
Early adopters of mobility opted for a simple
deployment, by focusing on a single purpose
business requirement or project and deploying
it to a limited group of users.
As mobile and wireless technology has advanced,
we have new handheld capabilities, and faster,
more reliable connectivity. Accordingly,
companies are starting to look at mobility
projects even more strategically. We have
options for converged networks, and traditional
PDA manufacturers are implementing communication
capabilities into their devices, including
voice calling and wireless internet. The
convergence of applications handling and
communication capabilities provides enterprises
with lower cost alternatives to laptops
for applications.
Instead of a project for push email or
a line of business applications, companies
are considering how they can mobilise many
different corporate applications and put
larger amounts of current business data
on mobile devices in order to gain competitive
advantage.
For enterprises considering whether or
not to deploy a mobility solution, there’s
a requirement for better understanding of
the realisable benefits, for example by
establishing a ROI for their mobility investments.
And to maximise that investment, they need
a mobility strategy that will support both
their technology and business processes.
Please join Steve Dolan as he explores
the rationale for implementing mobility
solutions, the most important features of
mobility solution, how to simplify mobility
strategies, and how to approach measuring
benefits of enterprise mobility solutions.

 Converged
Communications Solutions for Mobile Enterprises
and Carriers
Meyer Mussry, VP Sales & Marketing,
Green Packet (Aust) Pty Ltd
Green

The pace of change in telecommunications
is relentless and fast. Changes in technology,
devices, consumer expectations and business
pressures mean that speeds must increase,
the range of services has to improve, content
must change and telco’s have to be
constantly on the lookout for new trends
and opportunities to be competitive.
If you are in the game, you have to either
play hard, or wither.
On the other side of the fence, businesses
are looking to maximise the value they get
from their existing infrastructure investment,
and seeking ways to achieve strategic advantage.
Phenomenal growth in integrated voice and
data services are one manifestation of this.
The youth market consumes social, music
and video services. Dating, sports, ringtones,
music, chatsites, video, e-mail, SMS and
of course voice are dominant here.
We shall investigate these issues and how
convergence and mobility are key requirements
for all concerned.
