Doing More with Less: Evolving towards
cost effective intelligent data centre
Patrick Chan, Chief Technology Advisor,
Asia/Pacific Emerging Technologies
IDC Asia Pacific
Businesses are
critically impacted by IT service quality
and continuity. While companies in Asia
Pacific are taking steps to consolidate
and virtualise the infrastructure and IT
workloads, it is pertinent that organisations
understand the new best practices, reviewed
in the context of IT workload optimisation,
monitoring and migration that impacts business
service quality. Many new and old factors
now impact IT quality of service. New emerging
solutions need to be considered and factored
into organisation IT blueprint. These are
now available that are cost effective in
leading a new way of measuring IT services,
managing disaster recovery IT services and
optimising virtualised and physical IT workload
management with a view to improve service
quality and resilience. IT workload needs
to be reviewed in the context of holistic
enterprise architecture alignment towards
manageability, availability and simplicity.
New transformational approaches to simplify
management and reduce capital and operational
costs are now the focus.
This session reviews trends, pressing issues,
challenges, emerging technologies, trends,
best practices pertaining to IT workload
management. New insights that will take
organisations to a new level towards a dynamic
virtualised IT environment which is essential
to today’s leading mantra of “invest
to save, invest to lead and invest to grow”
will be presented with a new perspective
of building, managing and measuring IT virtualised
workload. |

Clouds on the Horizon - A tale
of modern IT
Paul Kangro, Applied Technology Strategist
Novell
The future always looks like a distant
place until you get there - its only then
you realise that you should have planned
things a bit better. Cloud Computing, if
you only believe some of the hype, will
allow you a whole new way of putting all
the lego blocks together - a whole new architecture.
What can you do now to help you plan for
the fast approaching future? Understanding
your current workloads and using heterogeneous
management tools for virtual systems is
a good start. Understanding how your applications
fit into your companies value chain is better
still.
This presentation will give an evaluation
of how current technology will morph into
the cloud and how to get the best advantage
for your enterprise in the near term.
